Ben Sandifer
Secretary / Board of Directors
When Ben Sandifer was 10 years old, he entered a radio station for the first time. Though he went to WBML in Macon to record a PSA for his Cub Scout pack, before he left, he was bitten by the radio bug. Fast-forward to 1971, where he launched his career at one of Georgia's first stations, WPAX in Thomasville. In 1972, he returned to his hometown top-40 station, WNEX in Macon. In 1974 he moved to WAUG in Augusta as program director, and took the station from the bottom of the pack to #2 overall. In 1975, he moved back to WNEX in Macon, as program director and morning man. When he decided to finish his education at Mercer University, he moved to WMAZ radio in 1977, where he split his time between radio announcing and television sports. Upon completion of his degree at Mercer in 1980, Ben moved to Tallahassee, Florida, spending four years there in radio. He returned to Macon in 1984 for a sales position with WAYS-WMAZ, where he later became sales manager. In 1991, he moved to WPEZ-WDDO-WMGB and remained until 2003. During this time, he launched GMS Productions as a sideline business to produce commercials, jingles and programs. In 2003 GMS became a full-time business, and is now a full-service advertising agency and production house in Macon. Ben is a 6-time Gabby award winner from the Georgia Association of Broadcasters for commercials, programs, series and documentaries he has produced. Through its partnership with the Georgia Music Hall of Fame since 1992, GMS has produced the audio that compliments five exhibit areas in the museum; the Georgia Music Minute, a daily radio feature that ran from 1999-2001; the Georgia Music Special, a program series in 1992; the Georgia Music Jukebox, a series for Georgia Public Radio; and the audio tracks with Georgia music and narration that now play in each of the state's Visitor Information Centers.
The Georgia Radio Hall Of Fame is a Georgia non profit corporation and a 501 (c) (3) organization.
